We all love a "good news" story.
In November a team of 5 stellar WWU business students won the prestigious Boeing NW Case Competition. Three of these students who are officers in the student chapter of APICS (the international professional organization for supply chain management) decided to pledge their prize money ($200 each) back to WWU/APICS, but with a catch: they wanted the MSCM/OPS Advisory Board to match their $600 pledge.
When the Advisory Board Executive Committee learned about this unheard of act of giving back and philanthropy from current students, they decided to help amp this up a bit. "Let's show these exceptional students how a small act of giving back can grow into something that can have significant impact and multi-year reach. Let's honor these students!"
So they asked the WWU Foundation if they would match the student's pledge. And they did.
Then they asked alumni and advisory board members who are part of the WWU President's Society if they would match. And they did; actually they over-achieved just a little pledging $5,650.
Then they asked all prior student officers of the Western APICS Club (for the past 26 years) if they would support the challenge, and they did; also over-achieving by pledging more than $3,200 and growing.
The original challenge to the Advisory Board was completed and matched on February 3rd; this group of business professionals did a little more than just a match with $1,300 being raised this day.
And now we are asking all MSCM/OPS alumni, all family, friends, business strategic partners, companies and managers in the MSCM/OPS network, and anyone that would like to honor and encourage acts of giving back and philanthropy from young professionals - please join us by making a contribution. Any amount helps. All donations are tax deductible (WWU Foundation is a 501(c)3) and are eligible for corporate matches if your organization offers this benefit. Thank you!!
In the spirit of many small continuous changes for the better can make a significant difference, many Kaizen level donations can support weekly student professional meetings, help send students to the APICS International Conference, or provide scholarships to students in need.
Donations at the Quality Circle level will help improve the quality of education of all MSCM/OPS students by supporting tours and engagement with regional business
Be a part of the value chain linking these exceptional students to education and industry by supporting a weekly APICS educational meeting.
Help students create their own lifetime supply chain network of professional connections by supporting the cost of lodging for two students at the annual international conference.
Honor these students who are learning from Shewhart & Deming that planning, doing, studying and acting can create cycles of significant positive results - giving at the PDSA level provides a room for 2 students at the international conference.
Honor these exceptional young students by matching their original pledge and supporting the cost of hosting 3 of the APICS weekly professional meetings open to all students at CBE and WWU.
Help teach all students that one small act of giving back can have a significant, positive impact on many, many others. Giving at the Supply Chain Executive level will provide a deserving student the professional experience of a lifetime by attending and fully participating in the APICS Annual International Conference.
