Mariachi Conference at WWU

Mariachi Bahia Azul de WWU took the initiative to create a conference for high school student from the Skagit, Whatcom and Wenatchee counties, with a passion for mariachi, in order to show these students that being a mariachi can be another way into higher education.

The conference will provide three workshops: "Baile Folclorico" "My Name, My Story", and How to Apply to College". With these workshops we hope to wake interest in these student to attend a university and also give them the tools to do so.

After the workshops a panel of keynote speakers from the IDEA change maker fellows program will try to inspire the students to follow their passion.

Finally, to close the conference we have invited mariachi groups from the University of Washington, Central Washington University, to come and perform with our mariachi in the same concert as these mariachi high school groups. We hope that sharing a stage and getting to know eachother might also inspire the high schoolers to make higher education a goal for their future.

This concert will be open to the public free of admission.

In order to make this conference happen again we need help from our generous donors.

We hope that this event can repeat every year in order to keep bringing the Bellingham community together and most importantly in order to keep inspiring high school students to attend a University.
