In honor of Dr. LeaAnn Martin’s retirement from Western in 2016, friends, family, colleagues and alumni joined together and donated $30,000 to name a handball court in Carver Gymnasium after her. Donations to this fund will help grow the endowment that was established in conjunction with the naming of the handball court. The LeaAnn Martin Endowment is dedicated to helping Physical Education students prepare for their careers by covering the cost of professional certifications.
Dr. Martin, who has won multiple teaching awards, has educated, trained, mentored and inspired hundreds of students who have gone on to become respected, and in many cases, award-winning physical educators. Her influence spans many geographic regions as her alumni teach children in school districts across the nation. She has also influenced the international handball community, winning more than two dozen national and world handball titles. In her most recent role as Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, she has led Western Washington University’s largest college.
Let’s honor LeaAnn’s legacy of leadership, hard-work, integrity and dedication to the lives of so many others.
Proceeds from this effort will establish the LeaAnn Martin Endowment for Physical Education, which will provide dedicated funding for future Physical Educators as they prepare for their careers by covering the cost of professional exams and certification tests. LeaAnn is passionate about helping students start their careers at the top of their game. Thank you for helping these amazing individuals who plan to follow in her footsteps.
