Viking Night has been a tradition at WWU for more than 30 years and is the key fundraiser to support Western’s 15 varsity intercollegiate programs. As we prepare for our upcoming seasons, our need to raise funds to support our student-athletes is greater than ever.
Covid has changed so much. But despite these challenges, our unwavering commitment to the student-athlete experience remains unchanged. Your generosity will ensure these outstanding young people have the resources they need to excel both in the classroom and in their sports.
Even with a condensed season where fall sports were played in the spring, and a late start with limited practices for the traditional spring sports, 2020-21 was still a year filled with highlights for the 10 teams that were in competition!
We Had:
In addition to the record 115 GNAC All-Academic selections, WWU Athletics earned the NCAA Presidents’ Award for Academic Excellence for the third time in the last four years. WWU’s student-athletes recorded an Academic Success Rate of 90%, part of a record 42 NCAA Division II member schools that earned the NCAA award in 2020. Western also earned the award in 2017 and 2018, and fell one-percent short in 2019. Western was one of only six public institutions to earn the award out of the 42 schools in 2020.
