George and Linda Mariz have graciously offered to DOUBLE the first $2,500 that comes in on June 1st, Western Give Day! Take advantage of this amazing opportunity to double your impact!
Dr. George Mariz came to the Western History Department from the University of Missouri, where he obtained his undergraduate and graduate education. He served as the History Department Chair from 1994-2002, and from 1987 until his retirement in early 2016, he directed Western's Honors Program. He was pleased to see both of those units thrive, and he derived special pleasure from his long association with students. He believes deeply that the special relationship that develops between faculty and students, in the classroom, the research lab, the library, or any other setting where they meet, is the heart of Western's educational process. The Frank and Reba Mariz Fund, named in honor of his parents, will play a vital part in fostering those relationships.
Scott Linneman joined the WWU Honors Program as Director in 2016. He is excited to build upon the legacy built by Dr. Mariz that provides a community of students and faculty and staff who actively seek to challenge themselves and others through small classes taught by award-winning professors that emphasize discussion and writing.
Our goal is to honor Dr. Mariz and his lifelong dedication to students by endowing the Mariz Honors Fund. This endowment will provide sustainable support that WWU Honors students will be able to count on, for years to come, with scholarships, research and creative project support, conference travel, and more.
