WWU Accounting
Accounting alumni and supporters bring pivotal value to the WWU Accounting Program. You bring the real world into the classroom as you interact with our majors. You advise them as they hone their skills to be valued members of their future firms, and you enable many of our students to attend Western through scholarships. Finally, you have created and funded life-changing programs. Thank you!
As the requirements for an accounting professional escalate, you can help strengthen our program through the Accounting Department Fund for Excellence, which supports several initiatives:
International and Global Immersion Experience Over the past four years, thanks to a generous donation from several of our own Seattle-based Ernst & Young Alumni, twenty nine of our MPAC and senior accounting majors spent one week in London after studying specific topics in international accounting so that the time overseas was fully valued. The transformation of those students has been dramatic. Each participant has grown exponentially from this life altering gift.
We would like to expand the number of students participating and add another longer international destination that will continue to push our majors further outside of their respective comfort zones.
Career Development and Professional Readiness In addition to technical expertise, our students need additional emotional intelligence acumen. The Accounting Fund for Excellence allows us to host networking events, professional readiness seminars and bring guest lecturers to campus to enhance a student’s knowledge and experience. Furthermore, this allows administrative support for our students to have access to employers, recruiters and soft-skill training many companies value.
Accounting Scholarships
Last year our department awarded $60,000 in scholarships. Let us reach for a goal and try to award $75,000 in the next school year, further allowing students to focus entirely on their studies.
In addition, I invite you to:
-
Consider mentoring a student by joining our Virtual Mentoring Group. Michelle Stach, our department manager, can help align you with the appropriate contact.
-
Join our LinkedIn Page: https://www.linkedin.com/groups/13553367. It is a user friendly way to collaborate, post jobs to keep in touch.
One hundred percent of your gifts to the Accounting Fund will go directly to supporting students in CBE. No overhead will go to the Foundation.
Thank you!!!
