The Artificial Intelligence Association (AIA) is a new club that was co-founded in Winter 2018. We work to bridge the gap between computer science and business. Anyone is welcome regardless of prior knowledge or coding experience. Our meetings are always interactive where our members collaborate to solve problems or create new ideas. Each meeting covers examples of how artificial intelligence (and other modern technologies) is disrupting the current and future business environment. We hope to make both sides of the conversation more dynamic and bring context and applicability to the conversation.
We are asking for anything you can provide us. Whether it be a donation or a cool resource we can show our members at our next meeting, we would love your input.
When establishing our club we focused on 3 things:
Relevance
We believe that technology must be viewing with relevance and context in mind. All too often individualistic development processes create ideas that lack relevance and therefore impact. Our club works to tie together both the technologies of today and why they are relevant. We focus on the questions "Why" and "How" because we believe that a growth mindset is the key to success after graduation. Therefore, our club hosts a project each quarter for our members to work on. Currently. we are developing an RPA (robotic Process Automation) program for Quality Assurance purposes. We hope to start bringing more relevance to our conversation through workshops using programmable robots and other technology.
Collaboration
As the workplace becomes increasingly interdisciplinary, we wanted our club to represent this idea in every aspect. Our dual presidencies (one president to represent the college of business and the other to represent the computer science department) truly represents a collaboration that is imperative to the success of this club. Providing both perspectives to our conversations paints a clearer picture of the field of AI, and enables our members to learn how to communicate across their disciplines.
Accessibility
Perhaps the most important aspect of our club is our emphasis on accessibility. All of our club meetings are open to anyone, regardless of prior knowledge, experience, major, etc. We believe that AI applies to everyone and therefore our club should also represent this open-sourced ideology. Therefore, we have no club dues . We run our club by donation only. This is, of course, why we are asking for your help. In hopes of increasing our ability to provide amazing opportunities to our club members and also our fellow peers at WWU, we are in need of your donation. In the future, we would like to be able to send our members to AI conference, provide courses/certifications and other hands-on activities.
If you have any questions about who we are or how you can get involved, feel free to email us at wwu.aia.club@wwu.edu!
