Support Physical Education & Health (PEH) Club!

Support pre-service physical education and health teachers by helping our inaugural Physical Education and Health (PEH) Club get to Salt Lake City, Utah to attend and present at the Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE) of America National conference, April 20th-25th!

As pre-service physical education and health teachers, we are committed to our profession's mission of education our youth to become competent and confident in their ability to live a life in good health and longevity. Attending the SHAPE America National conference will provide professional development and networking opportunities pertinent to engaging as a professional and our commitment to lifelong learning as health and physical educators.

To date, our PEH club members have been presented and attended at three conferences. Two of the statewide conferences provided us the opportunity to present on Social-Emotional Learning Activities, and on Games Creation: A Teaching Model. During the first week of February 2020, we presented at our first regional conference, which was a collaborative presentation with preservice PE and health students from Pacific Lutheran University. We presented on Tchoukball, with the Teaching Games for Understanding model to put attention on appreciation of games and tactics needed for successful play. 

Attending SHAPE America National Convention will allow us the unique opportunity to present at the national level to P.E. and health teachers from all around the country. The presentation accepted at the National Conference will be expanding on our original Social-Emotional presentation. We will be implementing and sharing engaging Social-Emotional activities for the physical education and health settings with the intent for participants to leave our presentation with more knowledgeable and ideas on integrating the activities into their classrooms. We will be able to network with hundreds of people in the field in which will affect the future of our careers and placements, gain new perspectives and insights on things such as behavioral management, social emotional learning, fitness assessments, how to create more effective learning targets and assessments, and so many more items that contribute to effective teaching.

Our funding needs include support towards transportation, conference registration, and lodging. The cost breakdown for four undergraduate students includes: $800 in conference registration fees ($150/conference fee per person, $60/SHAPE America membership fee per person); $1000 in lodging fees ($140/night for 7 nights); and $1000 in transportation fees ($700/rental car, $200/gas). Upon our return from this conference, we will share our experiences holding a meeting with a presentation sharing what we experienced and learned with friends, family, PEH Alumni, donors, faculty, fellow PEH Club members, and more are always welcome. 

We are pursuing this endeavor to advocate for our inaugural PEH Club, our amazing PEH P-12 program here at WWU, the PEH community at large, and past PEH alumni who have left a huge impact on physical education and health as a whole.
