Despite 26% of the world's population experiencing menstrual cycles, 500 million people are affected by period poverty every year. Period poverty is defined as having insufficient means of menstrual products and period hygiene education. It is estimated that the average person with a cycle spends $6,360 in their lifetime on menstrual products! Period stigma and financial barriers can make accessing period products difficult, especially in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. At Planned Parenthood Generation Action, we want to make a difference!
Planned Parenthood Generation Action is a Western Washington University club advocating for sexual health through education and activism. We are a student resource and a part of the Planned Parenthood Action Network, a protective advocacy and service initiative to expand and secure reproductive justice for future generations. We believe that supporting our local community can make an immense difference for those in need!
For the month of March, we are holding a period product drive to support local populations experiencing period poverty! We ask for your help in the fight against barriers of period product access. Your donation can help keep someone safe during their next period. All donations will go towards purchasing additional period products to be distributed to Bellingham community members in need. We thank you for your contribution!
If you wish to donate physical period products, our physical donation boxes will be located at WinkWink Boutique, Worn Again Thrift, and at the WWU resident's halls.
Thank you for helping us break the boundaries of period poverty!
