Scholars Week 2024 needs your help

The opportunity for WWU students to present their outstanding academic achievements depends on you.

With your help, Scholars Week, Western Washington University’s annual, week-long celebration of outstanding student research and creative work, is poised to provide opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to showcase their finest academic accomplishments.

Donations to this Viking Funder support special presentation events held May 13 - 17, 2024, that highlight student scholarship and the significance of faculty mentorship. Presenters representing programs, departments and colleges across campus draw alumni, family, friends, fellow students and the general public to campus to engage with outstanding academic achievement in research, creative work and performance.

About Scholars Week
Scholars Week was created by unanimous resolution of the Faculty Senate in November 1999. What was originally envisioned as “Scholars Day” quickly became “Scholars Week” in order to accommodate a diverse series of events highlighting the scholarship and creativity of Western students.

From art to engineering technology, students and faculty work closely together to explore the boundaries of knowledge. Scholars Week, which began May 2000 as a day-long celebration with 100 students participating in 11 events, has since evolved to a week-long event of more than 300 undergraduate and graduate students from 50 different disciples participating in one of four different presentation formats. These four main Scholars Showcase presentation formats feature research and creative work from students from across the university: The Poster Session, the Three-minute Thesis (3MT®), MA/MFA Creative Writing Presentations, and Faculty/Student Group Collaborations. In addition, many Western departments, colleges, and programs concurrently host their own Scholars Week activities specific to their discipline.

Scholars Week Planning Committee

The Scholars Week Planning Committee facilitates the organization of Western's annual Scholars Week activities in coordination with the Office of the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs. The planning committee includes representatives from Western's Graduate School, The Honors College, Research and Sponsored Programs, Western Libraries, University Communications and Marketing, and the Department of Journalism.
