Help Send WWU Wrestling to Nationals!
In 2012, a group of WWU students, united by a love for wrestling, came together to form what is now the Western Wrestling Club. Replacing the varsity program that the school added in 1962 and cut in 1981, WWU's wrestling club gives WWU students the opportunity to wrestle. Many of our competitors started in college, while others are looking to continue competing after high school and make a serious run for a national title. WWU wrestles under the NCWA (National Collegiate Wrestling Association) against other club teams and teams transitioning between divisions (Bellarmine DII-DI, Lindenwood DII-DI, Menlo NAIA-DII, Thomas More NAIA-DII, etc.). The NCWA is unique from other club organizations as it combines "real" varsity programs with clubs that may only have a handful of wrestlers. Many schools, including WWU, had to cut wrestling from their athletic department due to various reasons, and the NCWA breathes new life into dormant programs. Many NCWA teams have gone on to become successful at the NAIA, NJCAA, or even NCAA level.
Last season, after sending a program record of 13 wrestlers (5 women, 8 men) and having our first-ever men's or women's NCWA National Finalist, Jada Yamada, we are looking to continue this momentum as we begin the 2025-2026 season. WWU has had at least one NCWA All-American every year since 2017, except for 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19. As an entirely self-funded student-run club, every donation helps cover costs for travel, registration/tournament fees, team gear, and other expenses incurred throughout the season.
