IDEA Institute Presents: Off The Canvas

Western Washington University’s very own 3rd quarter IDEA Institute students are hosting Off The Canvas to showcase our program and our local artists in Bellingham. The IDEA Institute at Western Washington University promotes interdisciplinary learning, entrepreneurship, and innovation. At IDEA, we believe entrepreneurship is for everyone. Whether you focus on social justice, environment, arts, education, business, humanities, engineering or any other academic subject, this program is designed to provide the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully engage in entrepreneurial and innovative behaviors within new and existing organizations.

Off the Canvas will be a local, interactive art mixer held during downtown Bellingham's Art Walk. We will be providing an interactive space where local artists will display their work for viewing and for sale. Artists include Mimi Gaffe, a zine and cartoon artist, Surreal Hawthorne, a jewelry artist focusing on the natural world, Gwen Larned, a flower press artist, Cody Foust, tie-dye artist at Lizard Creations, and Jerry Fowls, a tattoo and caricature artist!

We will also have food, drink, a tie dye station, a wire-wrap jewelry station, a community canvas, and a sharpie art station. This event will unite the artistic community in Bellingham by allowing people from different creative disciplines and social circles to cross pollinate, network, share their skills and bond over art.

We invite you to come take part in this event on Friday, December 1st  from 7pm-11pm, at The Faithlife Corporation, on 204 West Holly Street, right next to The Wild Buffalo. All the proceeds will go towards our capital seed fund for the Entrepreneurship and Innovation minor. This fund allows us to support our students business ventures and allow them to have the funds to launch their business ventures into the community. Some of the awesome business that have already been launched within our program are:

Handshake Coffee

One of our Entrepreneurship and Innovation graduates, Arlen Coiley, created Handshake Coffee as his venture project throughout our program. Handshake Coffee is a mobile coffee cart that serves pour over coffee roasted in small batches and other cafe beverages. Handshakes mission is to improve the social environment wherever it is and to build a vibrant and supportive community around mobile vending.

State of Bliss

State of Bliss is a project that was started by one of our current students Namgyal Nepali. State of Bliss are a group of individuals who put their minds and values together to create representations of what we strongly believe in. Their mission is to enlighten the youth towards a positive lifestyle. Which they bring you through our quality products at an affordable price. Stay Blissful.

Flow Motion Trail Tours

One of our graduates Ryan Roberts started Flow Motion Trail Tours as his venture project that he now has continued even after graduating our minor. Flow Motion Trail Tours is an immersive mountain bike adventures in the Heart of Cascadia, deep amongst the ferns and trees of the Pacific Northwest.

Please help us allow more of our students to have the opportunity to share their passions with the community!

Thank you!!!
